Spring Opening Tip

Spring Opening Tip #1

Every spring, without fail, we receive multiple calls from frustrated campers exclaiming that their water heater will not produce hot water. Nine times out of ten, the issue lies in the water heater bypass. Don’t forget, when a camper is winterized, the water heater bypass valves should be turned to prevent compressed air and/or antifreeze from  gaining access to your tank. If those valves are not reopened, water will never make it to your heater, and you will be heating up an empty water tank! Make sure your valves are in the open position to protect you from this frustration and other possible service issues associated with heating an empty water heater tank.

Spring Opening Tip #2

Another common call we get every spring is the presence of a “rotten eggs” type smell in your RV. If your water heater bypass was not turned to bypass mode, and antifreeze was utilized in your winterization process, antifreeze will have unfortunately found its way into your water heater tank. When antifreeze is heated up, it produces a sulfuric scent, commonly associated with rotten eggs. Be sure to flush your water tank multiple times with fresh water to rid your RV of this smell!

As always, our friendly service department located @ 240 Tom Miller Road here in Plattsburgh, is here to help if you with any of your camper maintenance needs.
