Local Camping Activities

Camping in the North Country is a unique and fulfilling way to enjoy nature. In the heart of the Adirondack Park, the largest contiguous protected wilderness area in the United States, you will find not only unique and distinctive flora and fauna – but some of the most enriching outdoor activities available to you anywhere camping can be done. Below are some of the activities that campers in our beautiful woodland safe haven tend to enjoy the most!

-TAKE A HIKE!

Central, Upstate, and Northern New York are home to some of the most renowned hiking experiences available anywhere. Whether you’re an aspiring 46’er, looking to hike the same Mt Marcy trail once traversed by Teddy Roosevelt – or a laid back stroller looking to pursue something with less incline and more picnic tables, there are options all around you! Your local campsite will have information on what peaks and trails are nearest you, and will be able to point you in the direction of a family adventure likely only minutes away!

-GO UP A CREEK WITH A PADDLE!

NYS Waterways are expansive and diverse wherever you look! With over 70,000 miles across over 7,600 different ponds, lakes, and rivers in the state – a day of fun on the water is never too far away. For boaters and non-boaters alike, and for the prospective kayak/canoe owner or renter, options are accessible for whatever your goals are on the water – many campsites offer different rental options on-site, and have insight as to where they’ll be available locally! Planning a day to travel along the many beautiful waterways in our state is a great way to experience nature in a way you haven’t before in places you’ve never been!

-GET REEL!

Some of the best family bonding can be done with a fishing pole in the hand, some music in the background, and some laughter in the air. With over 150 freshwater fish species in our state, that’s over 150 opportunities to share smiles, teach lessons, and have some fun all rolled into one! Many campsites in our local area offer on-site fishing locations, pole rentals, and bait to campers looking to have a laid back afternoon in the sun with friends and family. Whether you’re doing some catch-and-release just to see your son or daughter reel in their first, or heading out to bring dinner home and put it on the fire – casting a line or two is always a fun time!

Our local area offers a unique and diverse array of outdoor activities for the whole family. Appreciating nature in a healthy and safe way is never hard to do with these options just at our fingertips. Whether it’s doing some licensed fishing, taking a stroll through nature, taking a trip on the water or anything in between and beyond – your options for a fun and joyful day at the campsite are truly endless!
